Hidden gems of the Montenegrin Mountains
This trip blends all that’s possible with Lada Niva in an amazing short tour: wild camping & comfy homestays, challenging mountain roads and less travelled asphalt roads. Explore the high mountains ranges and the fertile valleys, vast forests, crystal clear lakes and lush rivers. Most of all: this trip avoids the places where everyone goes. Hiking, swimming or canyoning are among the options while not driving your Lada.

Day 1 | Into the Kucka mountains | 60 km | 60% asphalt | 3,5 hrs
Podgorica as a capital might be slightly underwhelming if you’ve visited Rome & Paris before, but there is one great thing about this city; it’s surrounded by wild mountains & pristine nature. After you’ve shopped your supplies the city will be out of sight within less then half an hour and you will find yourself surrounded by the summits of the Kucka mountains. Find a romantic spot on the shore of the mountain lake and open the roof box to pop up the tent. Light the fire, open a cold beer and there we are. This is adventure travel Montenegro style.
Day 2 | Shepherd roads of Bjelasica | 65 km | 50% asphalt | 4,5 hrs
Wake up by the bells of the sheep & the song of birds and enjoy your breakfast. Todays travel will get you further up north into the highland of Bjelasica. Along this stage options for swimming & hiking are provided. Most of the day you will spent driving above the 1500m line so great views all the way are guaranteed. A part of the route gets tough when wet but an alternative approach is provided. At the lodges where you pitch for the night a lovely meal and a hot shower awaits you.
Day 3 | Medieval graves & monasteries | 145 km | 90% asphalt | 5 hrs
Through the Sinjajevina highlands cuts a road that simply had to be included in this itinerary. It winds up through, according to our liking, Montenegro’s most pristine valley, and then reaches a wild open terrain. Meet the highlanders and visit their remote churches and monasteries before reaching the countries most famous mountain range; Durmitor. For the night you are hosted by the local ranger named Ranko. His wife is a great cook so expect a lovely dinner tonight. She will also deliver the goulash that you can heat in a pot on the fire on your last night wild camping.
Day 4 | Four canyons in a day | 65 km | 50% asphalt | 3 hrs
The shortest of all drives allows you some time to discover a bit more of Durmitor national park on foot. The summit of Prutas is a recommended hike for today. This extremely rewarding peak can be tackled in 4 hrs (return hike). Another option would be to join in for the canyoning in the nearby Nevidio river. The last bivouac is also the most romantic. Imagine a little meadow surrounded by forests, a crystal clear mountain creek and sheer wilderness all around you. Simply unforgetable.
Day 5 | Back to urban vibes | 120 km | 100% asphalt | 2 hrs
After breakfast you pack your gear & drive back towards urban life. We will meet you in Podgorica at 11:00 to hear about your adventures over a coffee and then time has come to say goodye.
