Are you planning your trip to Montenegro and would you like to travel partly in a group of like-minded, adventurous families? Then this could be a great opportunity for you! This is the only trip on which you will not travel in a Lada Niva but in a larger western style terrain vehicle (Nissan Pathfinder or similar). The vehicles fit maximum 2 adults and 3 kids and there is plenty of space for your luggage too. The concept is simple: in 8 days we combine outdoor action and off-road driving. All you need is included and our guide will take great care of you during the entire trip.
Important notes: This trip is scheduled 1 time in the summer of 2026. Departure dates are fixed. The group consists of a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 8 families. Departure is guaranteed as soon as we have reached the minimum number of families. The minimum age for kids to participate is 10.
Today you land at Podgorica airport. Your guide will await us at the airport with our amazing off-road vehicles: the Nissan Pathfinder or Toyota Landcruiser. Then, we drive to our first accommodation, a charming (car free) camp between the olive trees. Today’s drive is only 45 minutes so we can start this adventure relaxed. Below the campsite flows a small stream with lovely swimming water.
We provide an optional short hike to the city of Stari Bar for those who wish to explore this unique city. You find traces from Ottomans, to orthodox churches, bath houses, mosques and even Venetian villas. From the city walls you have an amazing view.
The adventure starts! We will explore the nature of Stari Bar through its canyons. The citadel of Stari Bar was built on this location for a reason: on either side there are two canyons with a cristal-clear water flow down through the gorges. In the past this was a necessity for the drinking water supply of Stari Bar, but nowadays it is the perfect terrain for canyoning.
Rikavac canyon (6+) is the most approachable, and this is included in the price. If, however, we have some thrill-seakers in the group, we can provide the more challenging canyoning Medjurecki (for children of 10+ only) for an extra price of €35,00 per person.
It is time to leave the seaside and drive into the mountains! Today will be the day to feel the strength of the vehicles and to explore the mountains of Prokletije and its wonderful valleys. Most of today’s route is asphalt, except for the last stretch to our accommodation high up in Babino Polje. On the way we pass the impressive Grbaja and Ropojana valleys. In the Ropojana valley we take a break to admire the beauty and the water: a magic spring and a rushing waterfall called ‘grlo’, which means ’throat’ (you will get it when you see it) will mesmerize you.
Tonight we sleep at the ‘katun’ of family Redzematović. During the year they live in the town Plav, but from spring till early fall they live in the mountains in the hut. There is always work: from tending to the animals, making cheese, to cooking for the family and guests. From this katun you have a beautiful view on Babino Polje.
This morning we explore this part of Prokletije on an off-road tour to the tri-border triangle. Here you will really experience the strength of the 4×4 vehicles! The tour ends at Hridsko lake where you can take a swim (if you dare in the cold water!).
Afterwards we continue to a different national park of Montenegro: The Bjelašica mountains. This part of the route is asphalt. At the end of the day you arrive at the Jelovica lodges. Here, in the heart of Bjelašica, we set up camp. Psst… there is a pool here for those who need to cool off a bit after the drive! As on the previous days dinner, breakfast and a packed lunch are provided.
Tomorrow we spend some time at the camp. We provide a nice guided hike around the Pesica lake. You can also just visit the lake for a swim if you don’t feel like hiking.
Good morning! It is time to pack up the tents and drive towards Montenegro’s most famous outdoor attraction: Durmitor National Park. We will take a beautiful road to Durmitor. We will cross the Stozer plateau. This remote area has perfect off-road conditions. You drive through forests, open fields and you will be rewarded with great views. Before we go to the lodges, we make a stop at the Tara Bridge for our rafting excursion. Enjoy the crystal-clear water!
The next 2 nights we spend in charming chalets in a small village just outside of Žabljak. The shared bathroom facilities are of good quality. In the restaurant on site we will enjoy our meals.
Tomorrow we have a full day to explore Durmitor. We will take you on a guided hike in the mountains. With a transfer (included in the price) we go to the starting point of the hike so it is approachable for families. It is a hike that will show you the beauty of Durmitor: its mountain lakes, green valleys, century-old forests and of course the main attraction, the black lake. Here we have time to take a swim or relax before we return to the lodges.
